Begin your exploration on the Peak Adventure. Playgrounds are fun again for older children with ten different unstructured play areas. From this multi-faceted feature, it can be difficult to know where to start. For a simple start, beginners might start on one of the ladder style adventures. The Swoop Climb offers an hourglass ladder that leads from the ground up to set of two Suspended PlayShells. Other kids might opt to the easier triangular rope ladder that leads them into the Active Link. The Active Link is slowly widening set of staggered posts with triangle and circles set at varied heights to hold onto. The Twisted Trident is the most unusual ladder with both its thinning shape and wavy rungs. As children prepare to transition to more wall type climbers, they might warm up on the slightly tilted NaviClimb that is studded with jagged shapes that make it easier to grip. Once they are ready, they can start gripping the Explorer Wall and pull themselves up the curved vertically set, horizontal ladder. Or take a try at the Challenge Climb with its multiple grips leading people up and over. For final activity, they can spin on the Helix Spinner that tests their balance.
The benefits to challenge style courses are innumerable. Oftentimes, older children do not feel challenged on the more traditional style structures. With the multiple free-form shapes and unusual climbers, children have to find a way to play. This encourages imaginative play the narrative is no longer forced by themed pieces. Children have to become their own authors of the story. Finally, while obstacle structure typically don't have decks, they encourage more full body weight work. When there is a surface under their feet on classic structures, they don't have to balance and support themselves. Moving up a ladder, or climbing up suspended components requires more strength and constant balance.
